«Snow in Europe» is a musical midnight dream about freedom, color and snow, through which borders and lines are no longer visible. A surreal dream. Surrealism is not about powerful destructive forces of the subconscious, not about the triumph of desire and authenticity, but about freedom and color that overcome the monochromaticity of everyday life. «Snow in Europe» began as an intention of writing autobiographical music, although I was not sure of my ability to write a narrative, «talking» music. However, disobedient and selfish music quickly shifted from the limits of this topic and became anti-biographical. It turned out to be a sonic tale of overcoming given places, time and life through an artistic shift of musical and life material. My passion for surrealism, especially for David Gascoyne and René Char’s poetry, hugely affected the outcome. Music allows random and sometimes absurd combinations, in which I feel reflections of freedom and joy. Moderate and domesticated randomness seems to me a herald of miraculous. The loss of names and features under a vertical white weight of snow opens a path for unexpected, for an impossible hope. According to this fantasy, capable of visiting a lonely mind at a quiet midnight, evil and lack of freedom are always determined. There is always just one more knot on the grand canvas of causes and effects, while good, creativity and joy are a miracle and a gift — a gift without a giver, a gift of free and concentrated love.

There are many J.S. Bach pieces I've heard and enjoyed throughout my life, but it was especially Glenn Gould and his box set who made me fall in love and inspired me to take a deep dive and explore Bach's catalogue a few years ago. Then my music focus shifted for a while, but this interpretation just reignited my obsession again. I love this project, the included booklet and score as well! I'm late to join, but look forward to listening to the other and any future releases :) Gerrit
